Imagine a day dawning…. the dark giving way to light….tropical breezes gently blowing…
the peace broken by bullets and bombs….. so many lives lost before sleep was rubbed from their eyes…… December 7, 1941.
A date that will live in infamy.
When we visited Hawaii, we made sure to take time to tour Pearl Harbor and the U.S.S. Arizona Memorial. It was incredible, moving, and humbling. If you ever find yourself on O’ahu, you should take the time to visit this memorial. Here you can see the U.S.S. Missouri (or Mighty MO) to the left of the U.S.S Arizona.
Entombed below this floating monument are over a thousand men…. some lost in the first few seconds after the Arizona was hit, and some in urns…. added later by divers…. these men were shipmates that were not on the Arizona when it sank, but have chosen to be buried there.
Many sets of relatives died together… brothers, cousins, uncles, and fathers placed together on this huge vessel.
a little perspective
Today…. we remember…. a day that changed so many lives… a day that changed not only Hawaii, but much of the world.
