Courtney | Class of 2013 | Pullman High School

It’s getting to be that time of year — when coming up seniors need  to start planning for their senior portraits.    Hard to believe, right?  Well — it’s true!  Around here, we go from windy, rainy, miserable spring to hot summer — snap! — just that fast!  And with summer jobs, harvest, and fall sports starting in August, the summer goes by fast!  I am already booking seniors for the class of 2014.  (actually, some of them were planning WAY ahead and booked last year!)  So don’t delay!

Now –without further ado — here is my 2013 senior rep from Pullman, WA — meet Courtney!

Love her dress — such a pretty pop of color in the green….. and she looked absolutely stunning in it!

This is one of my first attempts at off-camera flash (OCF) with seniors last summer.  I have taken to adding the OCF to almost all of my senior sessions — either at sunset, or with sports shots.  I plan to learn more techniques this coming year to make it better!

Thank you, Courtney!  Best of luck in all your endeavors!

****stay tuned for more senior sessions from last year****

The pink is stunning on her. And my favorite is the action cheerleading shot. I would have loved to have one of those when I was cheering many, many moons ago!

Did you get a package?

A Winter Engagement | Eastern WA Engagements & Weddings

I must say….. I’m just a little excited to see this couple embarking on a new chapter in their life.  Why, you ask, is this young couple any different than the other young couples I’ve had the privilege of photographing?  Well, let me tell you….. this beautiful young woman is my daughter (through marriage) and she brings to our family a new son! (Boy does that make me feel old!)   I’m not sure he realizes just how much crazy he’s signing up for by joining our extended family, but I’m fairly convinced he will be able to handle it (and maybe add a little of his own:).

Caitlin and David– we are SO happy for you!  And can’t wait for your wedding in April!

…..um, yeah — that would be her tongue sticking out  — just a little out-take fun

Southern Gal - January 10, 2013 - 4:24 AM

Congratulations to them and you! Beautiful shots. I love the last two.

Jill - January 10, 2013 - 4:44 AM

You really captured Caitlin’s natural beauty in these shots. Love all of them!

Wendy - January 13, 2013 - 9:40 PM

Thank you!

Merry Christmas

Born in a manger, the King of Kings….. angels and shepherds and wise men from the East to worship.

He is the reason we celebrate with gifts of love to family, friends, and neighbors.

The house is decorated, the kids can hardly wait, and it even snowed 6 inches of billowing whiteness.

Little boys are dreaming and planning and making necklaces of jingle bells…

While a certain little girl believes in the magic of Christmas …. (and is trying really hard to get over her fever today)…

….just look at her wonderment during the appearance of Santa at her school Christmas play….

May your Christmas day be filled with Love, Joy, and Peace….

….we all need a little Love, Joy, and Peace….. and a little bit Grace tossed in….

….. and maybe just a touch of childish Wonderment and Belief.

“And the happiest wishes are just old fashioned wishes
May your days be merry, your sorrows be small
May the ones you love be near you
That’s the happiest Christmas of all.”

~Michael W. Smith

What a lovely series of holiday scenes… I see you’re located in Colfax (one of my favorite places on earth, the Palouse) and your name Almota, I’ve driven that road several times from town down to the Snake River… Hoping you and yours have a wonderful day together to celebrate the meaning of Christmas ~ faith, family and friends.

Thankfulness | Our little Fair

I know…. the fair was SO long ago….. but I have so much from the summer that I haven’t shared…..:)

(iso 500 f/2.8 1/10 sec handheld)

Every September we load up the Big Black Burban and truck all our entries to the Palouse Empire Fair…..

….. well loved animals, Lego creations, little works of art, vegetables from the garden, photos and various veterinary supplies.

This was Reid’s first year showing a pig for 4H.  I will tell you, I was skeptical.  I had always thought of pigs as rather stinky and noisy, besides we had so many friends in the beef barn.   Anyhow, he came to me last spring, and so politely and earnestly asked to give it a one year try in the pig barn.  He worked very hard with his pigs (1 plus a spare). The pigs were stinky and noisy, but they were also friendly, and at times quite hilarious.  And with the helpful coaching of two big sisters, he did SO well for the first year of showing.  He was happy to be asked back to the second round of fitting and showing.  Hopefully his ardor for showing will keep him trying to improve  (and the nice big, fat check that came about a month after the sale didn’t hurt either:))

Wyatt showed a lamb for Daddy’s Little Shepherd,  again.  He worked really hard, and showed great improvement since the previous years, but you can tell his heart was in the poultry barn.    Both he and Walter brought chickens to show.  They were so attentive to barn duties because that meant they got to be around the chickens, chicks, and ducklings.  Winona entered some perfect eggs, and Walter entered his self-designed and created Jet Pack in the Recycled Art competition.  He made it from packing tape (shoulder straps), an iPad packing box, a metal John Deere tin, and a plastic sunflower seed bottle.

But of course, the most longed for thing at the fair is the night we get arm bands for the rides (well, Randy and the kids get arm bands….. I opt out:))  The lights, the glee, the laughter, and screams….. well, these are all parts of the memories that all add up make the Palouse Empire Fair…… that and few bags of cotton candy and 4 caramel apples.   For this gathering of friends from around the county, I am thankful.

One thing I wanted my children to be able to do was show an animal at the fair. It never worked out, but we still love to view all the animals when we go.

Love the Ferris wheel shots.

Tricia - November 16, 2012 - 7:54 AM

Fantabulous captures… love all the lights! =)

I’ve started a new meme, so don’t forget to swing by Wed evenings around 6pm CST & link up to Watery Wednesday… and, of course, Barn Charm on Mon evenings at the same time! =)

Love the wheel shots! so great!! and the Fair is my favorite time of year too! Love taking the kids to see the animals and all the fun fair stuff!

Thankfulness | My Family

Of all the things I am thankful for…..

……I am SO very thankful for my family — for each and every quirky, sweet, interesting, crazy thing….

….from the boy who loves to draw, to the boy who loves football, to the girl who loves her daddy, to the boy who loves everyone….

I am thankful for being given the chance to be their mom…..

…..to love them, teach them, hold them, and learn from them,

……everyday is a chance to grow, and celebrate, and sometimes even fail pretty spectacularly.

My oldest, on the cusp to pre-teen.  Heaven help me, I’m not sure how well I will handle it.  The oldest, the often experiment — breaking new ground with mom so that the younger siblings won’t have it so hard. :)  His love is strong and quiet.  His teacher told me that he makes her laugh everyday, and that’s good for a boy who often takes himself way too seriously.

My second….. his face a window to his soul….. that look– it smolders, it melts, it makes you want to squeeze him until you die laughing.  He is the antithesis of his older brother, by will if not by nature.   His love is abundant and warmly ferocious. He can put on a pout for an eternity, and laugh for an eternity and a half.   (I fear greatly those years when hormones will rule his emotions — it will be a bit of a wild roller-coaster ride)

My third….. like a young shoot that is easily crushed,  he has taught me to look at the world with gentle, trusting eyes.  His love is ardent and persistent and pure. He sees the light and shadows that others often miss.  He relishes quiet contemplation, creating art with his trusty paper and pencil, and snuggling with his momma…..so much so that I often wonder if his umbilical cord is still magically attached to my womb.  I pray that I find the right balance between sheltering him and nudging him out of his comfort zone.

And…….. with much fanfare….. my fourth.  Don’t worry, as you can see she often creates her own fanfare.  She is half wild-child, and half sweet princess.  She can turn from a precious, glowing angel to the perfect, dark storm in 0.3 seconds flat.  In her I see myself (without the advantage of 3 older brothers to love and support me).  Her love is effervescent and beautiful and deep.  She is toughness and softness all wrapped in one sweet little face.

And last, but certainly not least, is my man…… the one who balances us all out, who loves us all just as we are, who makes us all appreciate a good book, and a good pun, and an evening of wrestling on the living room rug.  I love you.

(and thank you for waiting until the day after our family photos to get your nose broken by the mean ol’ cow)

Southern Gal - November 8, 2012 - 8:31 PM

A broken nose? Ouch! Hope it heals quickly.

Honestly, I was just thinking last week that you should be posting family pictures soon and here they are! I adore the picture of all of your sweet children on the couch smiling at the camera. How did they get so big? You give us such insight into their personalities, I feel I know them.

I also love the one of you all holding hands and walking. How do you do that?!

Wendy - November 8, 2012 - 8:42 PM

Thank you, Southern Gal! I put the camera on a tripod and then used the timer and multiple image capture feature on my camera to get us as a group…… set the camera, and then run to get in the shot. :)
